The photo was one of the first I took with my new digital camera. I worked on it for quite a while to get the composition right. Fortunately I was alone at the time, because I'm sure that any passengers would have lost patience long before I actually took the final photo.

A short history of my life

Grew up in Potsdam, more precisely, in Babelsberg (in the GDR, the communist East Germany)
Studies (electronics engineer) at the Technical University of Dresden with an increasing orientation towards computers
First job at the meteorological service in Potsdam, programming computers for worldwide weather data network communications
Preparation and escape from the GDR together with a tightly knit circle of friends, because we didn't want to support that system, and also because I got into increasing political trouble, in addition to the lack of perspective and the prison feeling
Some years of project work in the Government Computer Centre of Kenya in Nairobi
Pilot license—particular thanks to my flying instructor, Sir Henry Dalrymple White, formerly British (Royal Air Force), who lived in Kenya until his recent death. A remarkable personality.
Acquisition of an airplane: a Cessna Hawk XP (Reims Rocket), four seats, single engine, 210 hp. Regular flights crisscrossing Kenya and the adjacent countries, Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania (including Zanzibar), Malawi.
Several voyages with the same aeroplane through large parts of Africa, on which I saw almost all of Africa (except south Africa)
The longest of these voyages was this east-to-west Africa and south-to-north Sahara crossing: Kenya – Uganda – Zaire – Central African Republic – Cameroon – Togo – Ghana – Ivory Coast – Liberia – Sierra Leone – Gambia – Senegal – Mali (Timbuktu) – Sahara crossing – Algeria – Morocco – Spain – France – Germany – England. It lasted three months. See photos
Still in East Germany and several years thereafter I was with my friend Rudolf Nottrott, without whom all this would not have been possible, and with a group of friends, who all disappeared from East Germany after Rudolf and me.
Founding the company and a lot of work
Work as a freelancing computer consultant (see the business pages) and continuous learning to stay up to date

Auszüge aus meiner Lebensgeschichte

Aufgewachsen in Potsdam, genauer gesagt, in Babelsberg (in der DDR)
Studium (Dipl.-Ing. für Elektronik) an der Technischen Universität Dresden, dabei zunehmende Orientierung auf Computer
Arbeit beim Wetterdienst in Potsdam, Programmierung von Computern für die Nachrichtenübertragung im weltweiten Wetterdatennetz
Vorbereitung und Flucht aus der DDR gemeinsam mit dem Freundeskreis, weil wir das System nicht länger mittragen wollten und ich dort auch zusehends politische Schwierigkeiten bekam, zusätzlich zur Perspektivlosigkeit und dem Gefängnisgefühl
Einige Jahre Projektarbeit im Regierungsrechenzentrum von Kenia in Nairobi
Pilotenlizenz—besonderer Dank gilt meinem ehemals britischen (Royal Air Force), nun in Kenia lebenden Fluglehrer, Sir Henry Dalrymple White. Eine bemerkenswerte Persönlichkeit.
Anschaffung eines Flugzeugs: Cessna Hawk XP (Reims Rocket), viersitzig, einmotorig, 210 PS. Regelmäßige Flüge kreuz und quer durch Kenia und die angrenzenden Länder Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania (auch Zanzibar), Malawi.
Mehrere lange Flugreisen mit demselben Flugzeug durch weite Teile Afrikas, bei denen ich fast ganz Afrika (außer Südafrika) kennengelernt habe
Die längste dieser Reisen war diese Ost-West-Afrika- und Süd-Nord-Sahara-Durchquerung: Kenia – Uganda – Zaire – Republik Zentralafrika – Kamerun – Togo – Ghana – Elfenbeinküste – Liberia – Sierra Leone – Gambia – Senegal – Mali (Timbuktu) – Sahara-Durchquerung – Algerien – Marokko – Spanien – Frankreich – Deutschland – England. Sie dauerte drei Monate. Fotos anschauen
Noch in der DDR und etliche Jahre danach war ich mit meinem Freund Rudolf Nottrott zusammen, ohne den all dies nicht möglich gewesen wäre, und mit einer Gruppe von Freunden, die alle nach Rudolf und mir ebenfalls aus der DDR verschwanden.
Gründung der Firma und viel Arbeit
Tätigkeit und nie aufhörende Weiterbildung als freiberuflicher Computer-Consultant (siehe geschäftliche Seiten)

	Fredrika Gers, Werbetexterin und Autorin der „Hacker“-Romane „Lange Leitung“, „Netzjagd“ und … Leider ist sie inzwischen ein Stückchen weiter weggezogen.
	Hans Lehner, mehrfacher Weltmeister im Elektro-Modellboot-Rennen und Hersteller der erfolgreichsten Hochleistungs-Elektromotoren für Modell-Rennboote und Modellflugzeuge, mit denen oft die Weltmeisterschaften gewonnen werden. Siehe: Lehner-Motoren-Technik (LMT)

Natürlich gibt es noch mehr Nachbarn. Ich bitte alle anderen um Verzeihung dafür, dass ich nicht alle hier auflisten kann.

Und ganz zum Schluss noch die Michna-Skilängen-Formel:

Optimale Skilänge = (100 + durchschnittliche Skigeschwindigkeit/(km/h)) cm

Ja, die optimale Skilänge ist kürzer, als so mancher glaubt.

English - The Michna Ski Length Formula:

Optimal ski length = (100 + average ski speed/(km/h)) cm

Sorry, but it doesn’t work out quite so easily in mph. The result is:

Zero speed basic length = 100 cm. For each 5 mph add 8 cm.

Or roughly like this: For 10 mph use 116 cm skis. For 30 mph use 148 cm skis.

Or like this: As a beginner, pick skis between 100 and 120 cm.
After 5 days on skis, switch to 130 cm skis.
As an advanced medium-speed skier, use 140 cm skis, which may be the best allround ski length for speeds around 25 mph.
